Upcoming SMS & MMS Messaging Changes for Elevate UC
Effective January 1, 2026
Overview
New mobile carrier regulations are changing how business text messaging is billed across the industry. Elevate Technology will implement these changes on January 1, 2026. This update impacts all Elevate UC customers who use SMS, MMS, or Company Messaging from business phone numbers.
What Is Changing
- Each business phone number enabled for SMS includes a monthly message allowance
- Messages beyond the allowance will result in overage charges
- Both incoming and outgoing messages count toward the allowance
- Allowances apply per phone number and are not shared
- These changes are required by mobile carriers and enforced industry-wide
Monthly Message Allowances
Per User Licenses
-
Elevate Enterprise & Microsoft Teams Enterprise
Up to 1,000 message parts per user each month -
Elevate Pro, Teams Pro & Education Bundles
Up to 500 message parts per user each month -
Elevate Essentials & Teams Essentials
Up to 25 message parts per user each month
Company Messaging Numbers
-
Shared Company Messaging numbers
Up to 1,000 message parts per number each month
Company Messaging is ideal for front desks, service teams, and shared inboxes that handle higher SMS volume.
How Message Usage Is Counted
- SMS: Messages up to 160 characters count as one message part
- MMS: Messages with images or files up to 1 MB count as one message part
All inbound and outbound messages count toward the same monthly allowance.
Why This Change Is Happening
Mobile carriers now enforce stricter controls on business text messaging through the implementation of 10DLC compliance. These requirements are designed to:
- Reduce spam and fraud
- Improve message deliverability
- Ensure proper business registration and compliance
- Protect end users
These rules apply to all business SMS providers not just Elevate UC.
What You Should Do
- Review which users are actively texting customers
- Ensure high-volume users are on Pro or Enterprise licenses
- Use Company Messaging for shared or customer-facing numbers
- Avoid bulk or marketing texts unless expressly approved
- Request a usage review to assess current message volume
